Self-care is an important aspect we do not always talk about or pay close attention to – At least, quite a number of folks do not; many people are so preoccupied with tons of activities and trivialize the need for self-care practices. The busy everyday life and the overwhelming life situations do not make most people focus so much on this aspect; after all, we all want to secure the bag. Often, we forget that when we have a breakdown, be it physically, mentally, or emotionally, it affects our entire well being and there would be little or nothing to achieve. This is why we must pay so much attention to good self-care practices.
Aside from the deliberate self-care practices needed to achieve adequate self-care, we need to understand that processes such as this take time. Also, what works for you may not necessarily work for another. The same self-care checklists do not sometimes apply to the same couples or even siblings. In other words, self-care happens to be unique for everybody. There are no one-size-fits-all solutions.
As an individual, you have to understand and estimate the true value of self-care by giving yourself the go-ahead to take good care of yourself, wholly sticking with the process, and working with a self-care routine that works best for you. You also have to do away with any doubt or self-criticism that comes knocking and pay more attention to the results.
What then is self-care?
Self-care means taking care of yourself by intentionally prioritizing your health and constantly checking in on yourself to ensure that you are fit.
These deliberate check-ins make us more conscious of our unique physical, mental, or emotional needs, which help us develop the practices needed to refresh ourselves every day. When we talk about health, it is not just the physical state of well-being. It also has to do with your emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. When we are fit in all of these areas, then we can live healthier lives.
You also need to understand that self-care is not only the nicest thing we can do for ourselves, but it is also very essential for our entire well-being. Being kind to ourselves ultimately results in better health and wellbeing.
The truth is, often, self-care practices are not always fascinating and relaxing. Sometimes we may not always feel like carrying them out, but it calls for intentionality, and you may have to get out of your comfort zone to carry them out.
