Santorini
My personal opinion is that Santorini is the most beautiful and unique of all the Greek Islands.
It is unique because it is literally the tip of an ancient volcano which dates back at 1500 BC and was arguably the biggest in history.
The Akrotiri archaeological site is seen by experts as the lost city of Atlantis.
The sunsets and the views are the absolute best!
Mykonos
Mykonos is known mostly for its beautiful beaches, wild nightlife and fine jewelry shops especially gold. It is close to the island of Delos and is the location of an important archaeological site.
Crete
Crete is the biggest Greek island and boasts of everything from ancient ruins, cosmopolitan cities, beautiful beaches as well as the most extensive gorge in Europe.
Rhodes
Rhodes is very comparable to Crete in terms of activities, diversity of sites and climate although it is a much lesser island.
Corfu
Corfu is situated in the Ionian Sea far away from all the other islands mentioned here. It is a popular island for visitors from the UK. It has a diverse terrain and climate offering everything from pine forests to beautiful sandy beaches.

My favorite Greek Islands would be Santorini for its fantastic cuisine and sheer beauty, Crete for its diversity, delicious wines and food and wealth of activities.
Mykonos for its gorgeous beaches and amazing nightlife.
Andros and Chios because they are not popular islands for tourists and for all the beautiful and warm people I’ve met from these islands.
Best time to visit Greece?
The best period to visit Greece is in mid to late September. The weather is usually not as hot as in the peak vacation months of July and August, hotel rates and airfares are slightly cheaper, and the crowds have somewhat reduced by that time.
Undoubtedly the best time to travel to the islands should be in the peak months between June and September particularly because of the weather. Most of the islands are reasonably quiet in the off- season except for the residents. It is true that you could save significantly on airfare and especially your lodgings in the off -season but, the islands are not the best place to be when it’s rainy or cold.

Also, have it at the back of your mind that Greece is part of the European Union and therefore uses the Euro as its currency. The US Dollar is very weak compared to the Euro, which means that Greece is no longer seen as an inexpensive travel destination. This in turn has affected tourism to Greece the past few years. You will definitely get your money’s worth just that the prices are more on parity with those in Spain and Italy which were normally more expensive destinations than Greece.
